Who are you, Robin Driscoll?
Behind the comical face of Mr. Bean is a trio: Rowan Atkinson, Richard Curtis, and Robin Driscoll. Often overlooked by the general public, Driscoll is nevertheless one of the most important minds behind the series. He co-wrote the majority of the episodes, conceived situations that have become iconic, and, on several occasions, played small roles on screen.
His style of humor, based on visual comedy and absurd situations, largely shaped Bean's personality and the very particular universe of the series.
Screenwriter, actor and collaborator of Rowan Atkinson
Robin Driscoll met Rowan Atkinson in the late 1970s. They both shared a common passion: physical, wordless humor inspired by classic burlesque.
Driscoll quickly became the main co-writer of the Mr. Bean series, contributing to the creation of most of the 14 original episodes. He joined the team from the second episode, "The Return of Mr. Bean."
Among the sketches he concocted to land a contract with the production company was the one with the armchair on the roof of the car. Even though he thought this scenario was a bit too expensive, it eventually came to fruition a few years later and became a cult moment of the series.
In parallel, he makes several appearances in the series: A member of the cinema crew, a police officer, the ticket inspector.

Robin Driscoll, what will you be doing in 2026?
At 73, Robin Driscoll is enjoying an active retirement during which he has already published four books. After the Mr. Bean series, he remained loyal to Rowan Atkinson, contributing to the screenplays of the two films as well as the animated series.
